My name is Nicole Deelah and I offer Birth Doula services within 60 minutes of Grand Rapids.
I attend hospital, home, and birth center births and have been a childbirth educator and doula for over 8 years now. I have 5 children of my own and, as a doula, I have experience in many types of birth, including home birth, VBACs, and multiples. I have attended around 35 births at this time.
A Doula (Doo-LAH - meaning woman's servant) is a trained, non-medical professional who accompanies women in labor to help ensure a safer and more satisfying birth experience. She provides emotional, physical and informational support during the antenatal, birthing, and postpartum periods. We draw on knowledge and experience to provide reassurance and perspective, make suggestions for labor progress, help with relaxation, massage, acupressure, counterpressure, positioning, and other techniques for comfort. Your Doula works for you and remains with you from the moment you call on them during labor until after your baby is born.
As a doula, I have experience with VBAC, hospital birth, home birth, free-standing birthcenter births, high risk pregnancy, twin births, unmedicated birth, medicated birth, cesarean support, Hypnobabies (r), Bradley Method (r), Lamaze (r), and other method of childbirth preparation.
For comfort measures, I have experience in the use of common and less-common doula tools (ribozo, birthing ball, etc..), hydrotherapy, massage therapy, counterpressure, acupressure, aromatherapy, positions for labor and birth, and more.

I believe that a doula can help a woman to reclaim the beauty, strength, and humble respect of the rite of passage to motherhood called childbirth; that women might believe again in their bodies abilities. My hope is to dispel fear and anxiety over this blessed event through advocacy, education, and support. I would be honored to attend you at this time.
